REPNE SCASB

When I started writing code back in the 70′s it was all assembly language mnemonic instructions. My first CPU was the Motorola 6502. But soon I would turn into on the Intel track opening up a whole new world of instructions in the 8086 CPU. One of them, “REPNE SCASB”, popped up in my head today. That was an assembler instruction I used quite a lot. (Scanning strings)

And I couldn’t resist thinking of how many REPNE SCASB instructions that are executed even today on every single Intel based server in the world every microsecond. It must be trillions!!!!! Amazing!
